Getting started
What is Crewloft?
A studio management sim: build a studio, hire a crew, lay out the office, grab a coffee. The difference is that your crew are AI agents, built on Claude Code. On your computer, they hold meetings, split up the work, write code and research, and deliver real files.
Which computers does it run on?
Macs with Apple Silicon (M-series chips) running macOS 13 or later. A Windows version is in the works. Intel Macs aren't supported for now.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Sign in with email, Google or GitHub. Your game progress and studio layout live on your account, so nothing is lost if you switch computers or reinstall. A studio can be open on one computer at a time.
Does it cost anything?
The game is free to download and play. Real money only buys Gold and the Monthly Pass, which are for furniture and decorations and don't affect your crew's work. See Pricing.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Handing over a job is like talking to a colleague: write down the goal, and your crew will meet about it, split it into tasks and get going, and come to you when they need a decision.
Payments
What do Gold and the Monthly Pass buy?
Furniture and decorations in the game. Nothing you can buy makes your crew work better or faster. The other currency, Bricks, is earned only by playing: finishing tasks, holding meetings, handling what needs you, and claiming the daily gift.
What's the first-buy double?
The first time you buy each Gold pack, you get double the Gold. The extra is a bonus, there as soon as you pay. It doesn't apply to the Monthly Pass. First-buy offers reset at events such as the anniversary, as announced in the game.
How do I buy?
Open the wallet in the game and pick an item. A checkout page opens in your browser; once you've paid, head back to the game and it's there. Payments are handled by Creem, our merchant of record, by card or Alipay.
Why US dollars? What about tax?
Crewloft is sold worldwide, so prices are in US dollars. Creem works out any sales tax or VAT for where you live and shows the final amount at checkout.
How does the Monthly Pass work? Does it renew?
It doesn't renew. You get Gold right away, plus more each day you claim your gift at the front desk, for 30 days. A missed day isn't made up. Monthly Passes stack up to 180 days remaining.
I paid, but nothing arrived.
It usually takes under a minute. If a few minutes have passed, reopen the game. Still missing? Send your account email and Creem's receipt to support@playcrewloft.com.
Can I get a refund?
Gold and the Monthly Pass are delivered the moment you pay, so purchases are final, except where the law says otherwise or something went wrong on our side. See the Refund Policy.
Do test-period purchases carry over?
No. Before the official launch, payments run in test mode and charge no real money. Game progress and anything obtained during the test period is cleared at launch. Your account, model access credits and studio settings are kept.
Model access
Which AI model does my crew use?
There are two ways in, and you can switch any time at the IT desk:
- Official access: works as soon as you sign in, nothing to fill in. It uses cost-effective models (such as DeepSeek or GLM), paid for with credits.
- Your own API key: an Anthropic API key, or the address and key of any Anthropic-compatible service. The provider bills you directly.
What are credits? What happens when they run out?
Credits only pay for model usage with the official access. They're separate from Bricks and Gold, and Gold can't be swapped for them. During the launch period, new accounts get some credits for free. Credits can't be bought yet; when they run out, switch to your own API key.
Can I use Claude?
Yes, with your own Anthropic API key. To let more people start for free, the official access doesn't include Claude. The desktop app supports API keys only; signing in with a Claude subscription (Pro or Max) isn't supported.
Why is there no web search with the official access?
Web search is a tool that runs on Anthropic's servers, and other model providers don't support it, so your crew can't search with the official access. Reading a specific web page still works.
Is my API key safe?
The key you enter stays on your computer, in a file only you can read. It's never uploaded, and your crew can't read it. The keys behind the official access stay on our server and are never sent to your computer.
Images
Why can't my crew generate images?
This version doesn't include AI image generation, even with your own key. Generating images needs careful content moderation to keep out illegal, infringing or harmful pictures, and our payment partner requires image generation products to have it in place first. Until it's ready, we're leaving image generation out.
Your crew can still understand images, and can write design notes, scene descriptions and prompts for you to use with other tools.
Data and security
Are my code and files uploaded?
No. Projects, conversations, files and your library stay on your computer. The game only reports an event's type, time and a number, such as "a meeting was held, with 5 people", never titles or content. See the Privacy Policy.
With the official access, can you see my content?
Your crew's model requests pass through our server to the model provider, but the content of requests and replies is never written to disk or logged. We only record the model, token counts and cost, for billing. If you'd rather it didn't pass through us at all, use your own key.
What can my crew touch on my computer?
- They work only in the folders you choose.
- Commands run in a sandbox by default: they can only write to the working folder, and only reach the internet domains you allow.
- Anything beyond their permissions waits in "Needs you" for your approval.
- SSH keys, cloud credentials,
.envfiles and your own Claude Code settings are always off limits.
You set how much they can do alone at the IT desk: ask every time, edit files freely, or let them judge.
Do you collect statistics?
The app sends a fixed list of anonymous usage events to PostHog's EU servers, so we can see which parts of the game get used. They contain nothing from your projects or conversations. This website sets no cookies and has no tracking.
How do I delete my account?
Write to support@playcrewloft.com from your account's email address, and we'll delete your account, game and studio data.
